Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
