PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.
PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.
Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.
However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.
The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
